Love your neighbour as you love yourself. Matthew 22:39
This accreditation scheme (created by Christian Aid) aims to help pupils learn about global poverty and injustice, and the Christian responsibility to tackle it. The children are given the tools to play a confident part in creating a fairer world, encouraging them to become agents of change.
This year, we have been working towards the Bronze accreditation. In particular, the children have learnt the importance of courageous advocacy rather than just charity. They know that their voices can make a difference in our world, and they know how to engage decision-makers to try to bring about those differences.
The scheme:
- increases pupils’ understanding of the root causes of poverty and injustice,
- engages and empowers pupils as agents of change in the transformation of our world,
- strengthens the ‘promotion of fundamental British values’,
- promotes critical thinking across the curriculum,
- strengthens links with the local community,
- enhances Religious Education provision in schools by increasing pupils’ knowledge and understanding about why and how Christians, along with people of other faiths and those of no faith, want to change the world to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.
- helps pupils to use their voice to support them in becoming active global citizens and courageous advocates for change in the world, from a local to global level,
- helps pupils understand the connection between their lives and that of their global neighbours.
