Our Church School

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

Our vision is:

A thriving, aspirational community rooted in God's love.

We aim to achieve this by:

  • Reflecting on the teachings of Jesus Christ in our daily lives
  • Seeing all children as individuals, helping them to celebrate and achieve their potential whilst developing their self-esteem, confidence and independence
  • Helping children to become caring and responsible citizens
  • Fostering a lasting love of learning through creative teaching
  • Modelling the Christian values including:

Community - Compassion - Forgiveness - Generosity - Hope

Our Mission Statement is:

‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself’ (Matthew 22:39)

Jesus taught us in the parable of the Good Samaritan to Love your neighbour as you love yourself’ Matthew 22:39.  We have used this mission statement at school, historically, for many years because this is what God wants us to do.  Our mission statement contains the essence of all our school values (community, compassion, forgiveness, generosity and hope) and is complementary to our vision statement.  It is deliberately short, clear and easy to remember and is given, to be used, as a lifelong tool for our community (children and adults alike) to take into the world.  Our mission is specific and action-oriented intended to make a difference in our school, in our homes and in the wider community of our children.  In school, we use our mission statement to ignite and inspire problem solving, peace seeking, personal responsibility and unity.  It is our responsibility to make a difference to the life of others.  We can regard this parable as part of our Christian character, Christian cultural heritage, and our identity as British citizens.

At school, we know that we have achieved this when all children and adults flourish.  Living out our mission and our values is celebrated weekly in our special celebration worship.

Our school values

All staff, governors and pupils were involved in developing our Christian Values.

It is these values that form the foundations at Herne Juniors and underpin everything we do.

Each value is explicitly Christian and linked to Jesus, His example and His teachings, often in the form of parable, to make it memorable.

We celebrate them during our daily worship and explore them through our RE lessons.

Most importantly, we live them out in everything we do.
